Eating at A & W Dim Sum is as authentic as it gets. The moment you walk in, you're greeted by the classic dim sum experience--carts filled with steaming baskets rolling by, showcasing all the delicious options right in front of you. It's like a dim sum parade where you get to pick whatever catches your eye! The go-to dishes for me are the Sio Mai and shrimp har gao, both perfectly steamed and bursting with flavor. The chicken feet are a must if you're a fan of traditional dim sum, and the fried shrimp with mayo on the side is crispy perfection. Don't forget to grab the tender spare ribs--they're always a hit. To round out the meal, we usually order the combination fried rice and a separate plate of chow mein. By the time you're done, you'll be absolutely full and satisfied. A & W Dim Sum is the real deal when it comes to a true dim sum experience. Highly recommended!
It's been over 10 years since I was last here. The last time I came here, we were here for dim sum. I thought it was comparable to what you get at SGV and had most of the items I liked. This time around, I decided to come order some food for dinner (chow mein, sweet & sour pork, salt & pepper squid and tripe). Total came out to about $60+. The chow mein was ok, good, but it didn't have that wok hey taste to it. I really liked the water chestnut they put in this dish. Normally, that's that a part of it. The sweet & sour pork was a little on the dry side and no longer crispy by the time I got home. But the flavor was pretty good. The squid was bland and was not seasoned well. I had to add salt & pepper. I also didn't like the battery. It was a little harder than other places. The tripe was probably the best tasting out of the whole bunch. Tender, although a little salty, it was still good. Overall, I would say this is a legit Chinese restaurant similar to what you will find in the SGV. I'm not saying it's on par, but considering you are in the Valley with the closest Chinese Restaurant being Sam Woo in Van Nuys, it will cure your cravings.
Most reviews mentioned about ordering Dimsum in this restaurant which is located in Northridge. It's not really a place I would consider if ever I feel the craving for Dimsum. An invitation for baptism reception brought me to this restaurant. We were served so many Chinese dishes that were very delicious. The gotta was pretty good, too so we always asked for a refill. The service was initially very good but once they finished serving all the food and drinks for the ten tables reserved, they were nowhere to be found. We were constantly looking for someone to give us more rice and to refill our tea pots. We wished customer service was consistent from beginning to end.
Updating my last review from years ago. This year we have started a New Years tradition of having Dim Sum over the Holidays with the Family. Having visited A&W Seafood again, I am glad we decided to. It was great. Love me some Dim Sum! Living in the Valley, it is nice not to have to drive an hour or more to San Gabriel to find good Dim Sum. The servers here are pretty friendly and we're laughing and joking a bit, which is a nice change from many Dim Sum places we have been to. Of course the food is out fast and keeps coming for as long as you like, (they have all the regular Dim Sum dishes you are used to) that is the great thing about Dim Sum, you sit down and are immediately eating, love it. When we came today, there was no wait at all, sat right away, which is also a plus vs waiting sometimes for a very, very long time at other spots. We did go at 11am though. The restaurant itself has not changed if at all over the last 6-8 years, but the atmosphere is perfect for a Dim Sum spot. The fish tank could be cleaned and updated a bit though if they are reading this, . I would recommend them for Dim Sum anytime and you don't have to drive hours out of the way to get it, great place. I have a comparison of the cost 6 years ago vs today in my photos, a lot of change and shows how much inflation has hit us all. But such is life. Enjoy!
Considering this is one of the few dim sum restaurants in the valley already gives this place at least 3 stars in my book. We arrived around 11:30 am on a Tuesday for lunch. The inside is pretty spacious and has your typical dim sum restaurant vibe, with fancy chandeliers and a picture of a city on the wall lol. I was surprised that they did cart service. We were greeted and seated immediately and got the tea, mustard, and chili, which is $3.00 added to the bill. Throughout the meal we ended up getting sesame balls ($8.00), chicken feet ($6.00), 2 orders of shrimp dumplings ($6.50 each), pork shumai ($6.00), and pork spare rib ($6.00). The price was pretty decent for the quantity and size of the food. The sesame balls were a little pricey but they were huge! Super thick dough and a lot of red bean paste. We ended up taking 3 of these home because we were too full. It wasn't the best dim sum ever but still pretty good and portions were filling. I was happy with the variety too. The women were all very friendly and helpful. It didnt get extremely busy during this time but there were a good amount of tables taken with Asian groups. Total came out to $46 without tip which was pretty good. Would definitely come again or try other A&W locations if I don't wanna drive to SGV!
